Various anomalies color patterns result conditions such as Albinism, Erythrism, Melanism, Xanthism, and Schizochromism. These are characterized by alterations pigmentation concentration living organisms. Leucism is biological condition impairment melanin production cells. We recorded individual total eight times along with normal most occasions around same locality while continuing surveys for next 4 months.

Acoustic communication in the Red-vented Bulbul Pycnonotus cafer.

This paper deals with acoustic communication in the Red-vented Bulbul Pycnonotus cafer. This species emits a high variety of vocal signals that can be classified on the basis of their acoustical features and context of production. Individuals sang throughout the year and most songs were discrete and stereotyped. The songs were composed of strophes (phrases) with minor structural variations of e...

The invasive Red-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer) outcompetes native birds in a tropical biodiversity hotspot

Invasive alien species are a major cause of biodiversity loss globally, but especially on islands where high species richness and levels of endemism accentuate their impacts. The Red vented bulbul (Pycnonotus cafer), a tropical passerine bird that has been introduced widely across locations of high conservation value, is considered an extreme pest. It is currently expanding its range in New Cal...

SHORT COMMUNICATION Diet composition of the invasive red-whiskered bulbul Pycnonotus jocosus in Mauritius

Disruption of ecosystems is one of the biggest threats posed by invasive species (Mack et al. 2000). Thus, one of the most important challenges is to understand the impact of exotic species on native species and habitats (e.g. Jones 2008). The probability that entire ‘invasive communities’ will develop increases as more species establish in new areas (Bourgeois et al. 2005). For example, introd...

Egg laying site and oviposition pattern of two Phthirapteran species parasitizing red whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus).

OBJECTIVE Present study was performed to record the oviposition and egg laying pattern of two phthirapteran species infesting red whiskered Bulbul. METHODS The number of egg laid by each species on different parts of body was recorded by direct observation under stereozoom binocular microscope. Feathers bearing egg were subjected to SEM to observe the pattern of egg laying. RESULTS The maxi...

Heterospecific nonalarm vocalizations enhance risk assessment in common mynas

Animals rely on their acoustic environments to gain information regarding predator threats and social opportunities. However, because individuals have limited attention, focusing on a particular aspect of their acoustic environment may affect their ability to allocate attention elsewhere. Some previous studies support the distracted prey hypothesis, which suggests that animals may be distracted...
